We believe that local produce is the best. It is the freshest, tastiest and the highest quality. Much higher quality than a lot of the produce you will buy for a similar price in the supermarket. Often it will be difficult to find out the best deals on a week by week basis so a lot of the time people just go to the supermarket where they know what they can expect. MyLeedsProduce provides all this information in a clear way online.
The environmental benefits of buying local produce are significant. If you are buying your food from local sources then there is less carbon emission from transport. The carbon emission from the food industry is so large that the single biggest contribution a person can make to stop global warming is to go vegan. Not all of us are willing to make this kind of step and for those of us who aren’t, buying local is the next best thing. The transport carbon emission is all but eliminated.
The economic benefits are worth mentioning too. If you work in a community and spend your money at a supermarket, a lot of the money is being lost from the smaller scale community. If you buy from local sources, all of the money goes straight back into the local economy. If everyone bought their foods locally, smaller shops and producers would have a much easier job staying in business given the current economic climate and would have a better chance to prosper when the economy is strong. Our aim is to make this as easy as possible for both the consumer and the seller.
